Launch OTT Apps on Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Xbox One

Hey look! More apps! We now support white-label, VHX-powered OTT apps on three new platforms: Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Xbox One. Added to our existing platforms – web/mobile web, iOS, Apple TV, Android, and Roku – this makes Vimeo/VHX the most comprehensive technology for powering your subscription video business.

We’re excited to offer our first gaming console app with Xbox One, one of the most popular devices for watching OTT content. And we believe in the future growth for both Android TV and Fire TV (also we like their slick user interfaces).

Go see these apps in action for newly-launched VHX partner Love Nature, which features the world’s largest library of 4K wildlife documentaries and series, available in 33 countries. Download from Amazon, Google Play, and the Xbox One Store.

In 2016, we built and deployed almost 100 apps, with a typical launch taking only a few weeks to get into stores (more here about how we move fast). We know that building a successful video network in 2017 means being on as many platforms as possible. Netflix data shows that while consumers largely sign up on web or mobile devices, their watching generally shifts to connected TV over time, and our data shows a similar pattern. Our team works around the clock to build the kind of high-quality, seamless user experiences that consumers expect, which keep our partners competitive.

All our apps feature:

  • World-class video streaming, powered by Vimeo’s battle-tested content delivery network.
  • A beautiful new browsing experience, making it easy to browse and search large catalogs.
  • In-app subscriptions, so customers can subscribe directly inside the app (Fire TV and Xbox One excepted).
  • My List: Add videos to your queue to watch later.
  • Resume playback: Start a video on one device and pick up where you left off on any other device.
  • Community engagement with built-in video commenting
  • Chromecast and Airplay capabilities, so you can automatically beam videos from your phone to connected devices.
  • Offline sync: No internet required! Sync videos to watch offline, or connect to stream anywhere.
